Really good concept. We've got two big dogs and they go through gallons of water a day, and I was sick of filling up their gravity feeder. I was replacing the lines under my bathroom sink, and thought how great it would be if I could just plumb in a dog bowl that refilled itself. Well lo and behold the item already existed and so I ordered one. But as other reviewers have said, there were some major flaws with this item. Manufacturing process left a lot of rough edges on things and some of the gaskets were less than desirable. Not to mention I replaced the line on it because it was designed for a garden hose and not for a half inch bathroom line. That being said, I opted to plug and play for those first couple of days to see how things went. First off I noticed that the water would be brimming at the top instead of keeping a consistent level about a quarter inch below the brim of the bowl. And the tray which we had it sat in was full of water. Turns out that the water was overfilling the bowl and leaking out of the back. Turn the water pressure down, empty the bowl empty the tray tried again. Same thing happened. So after a few days I decided to go at it with some tools. As others have said when you remove cover and the float valve, and the brass nozzle in the back, you'll notice there's a tiny black gasket, well less of a gasket more just of a rubber disc. It's pretty thin and I do imagine that at some point the brass nozzle would pierce that thin rubber disc. So I dug it to my plumbing supplies and found one about double the thickness and replaced it. I also put a little drop of super glue on the back to keep it in place just in case. This fixed the issue of the bowl slowly filling past the normal / expected point. The last issue was the water was literally just flowing out of the back of the bowl. Where the float valve meets the bowl there was just this..... For lack of a better term... A shitty little piece of spaghetti..... That was meant to be holding all the water in. It doesn't work at all. Just rip that out and throw it in the trash. Then grab yourself a little tub of plumber's putty. Roll out a little sausage about a quarter to a third inch thick... And smush it into the groove that the old piece of spaghetti used to be in. Then reinsert the float valve by clipping it in the back and then slowly push it down into the plumber's putty. This will create a perfectly watertight seal. The great news is it doesn't impact the ability to clean the bowl. I bought a tiny tub of plumber's putty and I could probably replace this seal 50 times with the same tub. It's now been sitting for over a week, with zero issues and zero flooding and zero over filling.I don't have any special pressure regulator on the line beyond the normal flow valve that is standard in bathroom sinks, I have it turned down slightly, but in my eyes the pressure of the water was not the issue in this bowl It was the poorly executed waterproofing.A few design upgrades and this bowl could be flawless for use inside and out.I'd still order it again, and would immediately do both of these upgrades.I'll give it five stars for convenience even though I had to do make some upgrades to make it that way.Three out of five for manufacturing.. definitely need to work on the seams of the plastic parts and upgrade the gaskets.I live in TX and my dogs gravity water dispenser would get green algae in it if I didn’t wash it out every few days, and the water would be so hot! (They do have access to cold water inside also, always). I thought I would give this a try and I am so glad I did! The directions were easy to understand, it says how to adjust the water flow, and what to do to solve a few other issues that I didn’t have. I was surprised at the bowl being a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but it makes sense that a small bowl will refill itself, and the water won’t have time to get as nasty or warm, so I am good with it. The 10’ braided hose is longer than I needed (I wasn’t sure so o went with the longer hose) but it gives me options to move the bowl around if I need to. My dogs took to it right away and the faint sound doesn’t bother them as it refills while they’re drinking. I e only had it 4 days so I can’t yet speak to the durability, but it seems to be a sturdy product. I would definitely recommend this if you’re looking for an automatic refill water bowl for your animals.I looked at so many of these, and all of them had some complaints about being too hard to install, not having all the parts, overfilling, and/or leaking. I spent a couple of hours reading reviews and comparing different ones. This one also had some negative reviews, mostly about overfilling or leaking, but it seemed to be the better one of the ones I looked at, so I decided to take a chance. I took it outside to him it up, prepared to fight with it to stop leaking. Boy, was I surprised! I didn't even have to get a wrench to tighten it! I screwed it as tight as I could with my fingers planning to get the wrench to tighten it, but I never had to. It never leaked. At either end. I've never even had a hose I didn't have to tighten with a wrench or pliers to stop the leaking. It filled up to exactly the right level and has worked perfectly every since. I went outside and checked it several times that day, and it was always filled to the right level. No overflowing, no leaking. That's been about 3 days, and it has not leaked or overflowed once.If this changes, I'll update my review, but I'm hopeful that I just got the golden egg of automatic water bowls. This summer has been brutal and ive been using the normal self filling water bowls but cause of this heatmy dogs have drinking a lot more water and some mornings i would wake up to notice the container is already empty. It only holds 1 gallon of water i think and 3 small dogs sharing it wont last long. It really worried me especially if i go on a trip for more than a day so i bought this item to hopefully never worry about my dogs running out of water and so far im so pleased with the quality and neither of the connections leak any water. It comes with a brush which does make it easy to clean. Im not sure if it matters to anyone else but if you are leaving it outside, i went ahead and insulated the waterline leading to my water spigot that way the water isnt just refilling with super hot water. This bowl is great and does not leak!! My aussie who will NOT use waterers that make any sound (like tank water bowls that bubble up when refilling) is completely fine using this. A wonderful peace of mind knowing my dogs have fresh cool water always available in the summer heat!I have had these for a year or longer now. Never had to replace them. I am purchasing two more because I created separate areas for my birds. I use them for chickens and geese. Work amazing. The only time you get water around is when one of them stands on top of the pump and water keeps flowing, but they quickly move away when they are done drinking, so not a big deal for me. Saves me so much time! Best investment. We purchased this for our chickens so that they would have readily accessible clean water. They love it!
